UNIX / Linux System Admin – must know KPI, digital certifications & cryptography

Position Description: You will roll out and automate configuration and release of builds into production while scaling applications to meet user demands. Some of your main responsibilities will include developing new tools and scripting. You must have a strong background in both AIX and Red Hat Linux to assist in meeting new project needs and system support activities while providing support for all related products and triage of any issues that come up. You must be able to work in a team environment and provide proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues as well as maintaining documentation of systems and processes including building, configuring, troubleshooting LPARs, VIO servers on IBM Power Systems, or RHEL systems on physical (rack mount and blades) and virtual server (on VMWare 6.0/6.5). Experience with NIM and supporting SAN Replication Technologies on Unix/Linux and Storix on RHEL is required. You will also provide timely updates to AIX systems as well as perform routine patch analysis while also utilizing Satellite server to apply patches and updates to RHEL systems. Experience supporting HACMP/Power HA  in addition to Veritas clustering is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Configure, implement and manage IBM Power Systems and RHEL Enterprise servers in a highly available and virtualized environment (both physical and virtual).
  • Participates in capacity planning.
  • Participates in hardware/software budget planning.
  • Evaluates new and existing software and hardware products.
  • Backup / Recovery processes and disaster recovery procedures to maintain data protection and availability.
  • Ensure day-to-day support and a high level of  service availability as well as participate in on-call support.
  • Respond to real-time performance alerts to resolve performance problems, regular on-going performance analysis and capacity planning.
  • Independently perform moderate-complex troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and implementation.
  • Apply Firmware/Microcode updates to IBM systems.
  • Engineering efficient solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new /update existing servers, desktops; configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for installation and maintenance to assure system standards are adhered to.
  • Perform system monitoring to assure the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, and key processes; review system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled tasks.
  • Strong performance tuning and capacity planning experience.
  • Maintain physical and logical diagrams of hardware environment.
  • Security: Experience working with PKI, digital certificates and common PKI-based products and protocols including NIST, COBIT, HSM’s, PCI, FIPS
